The Project was the second of twin towers. We were in the process of completing Phase I when we were awarded the second tower based on identical design.
By the time the fire protection permit request was made, the first elevated slab for the Phase II building was already in place.
The prevailing thought was that identical building with identical fire protection design would be a recipe for smooth permitting.
The Fire Department, however, was experiencing personnel changes and the drawings were rejected with an extensive list of comments. Francis Engineering had to engage an aggressive, yet cautious approach to resolve all the issues with the design team and Fire Department, while ordering long lead time items such as fire pumps, and install work necessary to keep a construction schedule that was cast in stone.
